How to send personalized emails

This article explains how to set up and send targeted emails to your customers using automated flows and templates.

What is a personalized email flow?

Personalized emails are an effective way to reach customers who have given their consent to marketing. Since this is considered marketing, it is important that you only send these to recipients who are registered with active consent in the system.

Here are the most effective flows you can start with to increase engagement and sales:

  • Abandoned cart: An automated reminder to customers who did not complete their purchase. This is often the flow with the highest direct revenue potential.
  • Welcome after signup: When a customer signs up for a newsletter via a popup, you send a confirmation. This is also the best time to deliver a promised discount code.
  • Gratulerer with the day: A pleasant greeting sent automatically on the customer's birthday, preferably with a small gift in the form of a discount code.
  • New customer club member: A welcome email that explains membership benefits and gives the customer a good start to the customer relationship.

How to set up the flows

To send out these emails, you must first design the email itself, and then connect it to a rule (flow).

Example: How to send a birthday greeting

  1. Create the email: Go to the email builder, select a birthday template, and enter your text. Feel free to add a unique discount code.
  2. Create the flow: Go to "Flow > Overview" and click the plus sign.
  3. Select type: Select birthday flow from the list of templates.
  4. Connect: Select the email you just created and save the flow.

Abandoned cart and popup follow-up

These flows are set up in a similar way. When signing up via popup, the advantage of sending the code by email is that you simultaneously verify that the customer has provided a correct email address before they receive the discount. Read more →

Placeholders

The following placeholders can be inserted to personalize emails.

@[ORDRENUMMER]@

@[ORDREDATO]@

@[SPORINGSNUMMER]@

How to add the customer's name with fallback

Sometimes information about the customer's name is missing in the system. In such cases, you can use a function that inserts a substitute word if the name is unknown.

The format is: @[NAME,Erstatningsord]@

Example of use:

If you write: Hi @[NAME,there]@, thank you for your order.

  • If the customer's name is Thomas: "Hi Thomas, thank you for your order."
  • If the name is missing: "Hi there, thank you for your order."

This ensures that the email always looks good, regardless of how much data you have on the customer.

Find ready-made templates

Under the Personalization tab in the control panel, you will find ready-made templates for most purposes. We recommend reviewing and customizing these with your own logo and colors before activating the flows.
