The correct shipping methods are important for customers shopping in your online store. Which shipping methods are right for you depends on the size and number of packages you will be sending.

Choice of shipping provider

Shipping can seem like a jungle, and there are a sea of providers out there.

Should you have a company agreement, or should you send packages with Posten? Should you choose PostNord? Bring? Helthjem? Schenker? DHL?

This depends on what you are sending, to whom, and in what volume.

Sending to private individuals:

If you are sending packages to private individuals, there are mainly two carriers that are total suppliers and offer to send packages to all of Norway, both to the mailbox, pick-up point and delivered to the door:

  • PostNord
  • Bring
  • (Helthjem)

There are also other suppliers, for example for Same Day Delivery, express delivery etc:

  • Porterbuddy
  • Widerøe Smart
  • DHL

Sending to companies:

If you are sending packages to companies, you will immediately have many more providers to choose from.
Feel free to compare prices to find the supplier that best suits your volume, size of shipments and geographical location. Here are some suppliers:

  • PostNord
  • Bring
  • Schenker
  • Best transport
  • Local courier company

Are you completely new to the game?

It is not a given that it is cheapest or best for you to use a company agreement on shipping. Many newly started or small online stores choose to start by sending packages with Posten to keep costs down.

Which shipping options do you want to give your customers?

The shipping options you offer to customers are important for conversion in the online store. This is a topic we could have written a lot about, but we are just touching on it now.

Studies show that 9 out of 10 customers in Norwegian online stores check shipping prices and conditions before choosing to shop in an online store they have not shopped in before.

We also know that price alone is not the only thing they look at. Customers today want freedom of choice, they want to choose whether they want the package delivered in the mailbox, on the doormat, to a pick-up point or delivered to the door. And they would like to be able to choose whether they want to pay a little extra to have the package delivered faster.

Customers care about easy returns. And many are willing to shop more to achieve free shipping.

All of this is something to take with you in the assessment.
There is no definitive answer here, but we will give you some points to think about regarding shipping in your online store.

Checklist

What choices do customers have with your competitors?
Can you find a balance where you both match the competitors, while at the same time having a profitable operation?

What choices do you want to give your customers?
What should you offer and what do you focus on? Low price? Fast delivery? Delivered to the door? Delivered at work? Green profile? Think about what your customers will appreciate and what will make them complete their purchase in just your store.

Free shipping - do you have to have it?
Many stores have free shipping on orders over XX kr. If you are going to offer this - be aware of where you set the limit. Make sure you don't give away the shipping cost without it actually giving you something back.

How is the return experienced in your store?
All online stores must comply with the right of withdrawal of 14 days, but it is up to each store how they want to facilitate (or not facilitate) this for their customers.

Clear and correct expectations
The most important thing of all. More important than both cheap shipping and fast shipping - it is that the expectation you give the customer - must match reality. And that it is easy to find out which prices and conditions apply in your online store.

Professional and efficient operation

Even if you are a new online store, you will benefit from having a professional setup for shipping so that you avoid typing errors. You save time so that you can spend your time on what is important to create traffic and sales in your online store. With Profrakt integrated in your control panel, you get access to easy order processing, with automatic printing of shipping labels.

How to create shipments and print shipping labels?

You can create shipments manually, e.g. directly with the carrier or logged into a TA system (Transport Administration), but for the smoothest way to work, we recommend creating shipments directly from your control panel via a so-called TA/EDI integration (Electronic Data Interchange).

Shipping information will then be retrieved directly from your orders and automatically added to your shipping labels, then the tracking number will be added to the order which gives you and the customer a good overview.

By using a TA/EDI solution, you will reduce the time you spend processing your orders. And you will reduce possible errors that can delay the packages to your customers.

You have two different options. If you use Profrakt, you can create several types of shipments via their own TA system called Adminpanel, this can also be integrated with the online store. If you have another freight agreement, you can have an agreement with an external supplier of transport administration (TA supplier). Examples of TA suppliers are: Logistra, nShift / Consignor, Proteria and Axia Frakt.

For the most seamless way to work, we recommend Profrakt or Logistra.

Below we have listed the two most used methods for printing labels: Profrakt and Logistra.

Profrakt

Everyone who has an agreement with Profrakt automatically gets access to their TA system, Adminpanel. The integration between the control panel and Adminpanel works in the same way as Logistra which is described below.

Logistra

Logistra is one of the most streamlined EDI integrations we have. The integration supports Bring, Postnord, Helthjem, Schenker, DHL Express and over 500 hundred other carriers, and offers the transfer of shipping information directly in order processing.

In order to use Logistra, three things must be in place:

  • Subscription with Logistra. See an overview of prices here.
  • Label printer and DirectPrint supplied by Logistra. Read more about this here.
  • Acendy integration "Logistra". This can be ordered here.

Setup of shipping methods

When you know what you want to offer your customers, this can be set up in your control panel, so that customers get the choices they should in the checkout/cash register in the online store.
