Popup in the webshop
How to Create a New Popup
Follow these steps to build your first popup:
- Navigate to Personalized Shopping: Go to Extensions > AI - Personalized Shopping. Click on Popups and then the Plus sign in the bottom right corner.
- Select Purpose:
- E-mail collection: Use this if the goal is to gather marketing consent (newsletters, abandoned cart reminders, etc.).
- Promotions: Use this to promote a customer club, competitions, or specific products.
- Discounts: Use this if you want to offer a discount code to everyone visiting the webshop.
- Select when the popup should appear: (If unsure, choose "Normal")
- Normal: Shown to all customers based on the rules you set for the popup.
- Facebook: Shown when the customer arrives from Facebook.
- Leaving customers: Shown when the customer is about to leave the webshop (exit-intent).
- Specific page: Shown only on a specific URL.
- Select a template: After making the choices above, pick a template to use as your starting point.
- Customize: Adjust colors, images, and text to match your brand identity.
States and Content
A popup exists in three different states. You can switch between these by clicking the corresponding buttons in the editor:
- Minimized: The small bubble or button visible before the customer clicks.
- Maximized: The main window containing your message and form.
- Success: The message displayed after the customer has completed the action (e.g., "Thank you for signing up!").
To change the content, click directly on the elements in the preview. Here you can edit text fields, buttons, and backgrounds.
Using Discount Codes
Discount codes are the best motivation for sign-ups.
- Click Add Discount in the top bar of the editor.
- Select an existing code or create a new unique code.
- Copy the code format, which looks like this: @@DISCOUNT-XX@@.
- Go to the Success view and paste the code into the text field where the customer should see it.
Integration and Saving
To ensure emails reach your newsletter system, you must connect them:
- Go to Settings and select Newsletter Integration.
- Choose your provider (e.g., MailChimp or MailMojo).
- Select which list the contacts should be added to.
When finished, click Save & Continue. You will need to fill out:
- Name: Internal name for your overview.
- Position: Where on the screen it should be placed.
- Who and When: Rules for who should see it and which triggers should start it.
- Status: Set to Active when you are ready to go live.
Testing Before Publishing
It is wise to see how the popup looks in your own webshop before everyone else sees it.
- Go to Settings > Who > Add new rule.
- Select Address and paste your URL with an addition, for example:www.yourstore.com/?testpopup.
- Save and visit this specific address.
- When everything looks correct, delete the rule by clicking the X and save again.
Send Email to Customers Who Sign Up
When a customer signs up via a popup, it is often because you offered a discount code. We recommend sending this discount code via email as well, as this ensures the customer provides a real email address. See how →
Advanced Settings
Limit views per day
If you want to avoid bothering the customer too often:
- Go to Settings > When > Add new rule.
- Select Show per day.
- Enter the desired amount (e.g., 1 or 2).
- Note: Set the field "Show X times to the same visitor" to a high number (e.g., 999999) so the daily rule takes precedence over the total.
Manually exporting email addresses
If you do not have a direct integration, you can download the list as a CSV file:
- Find your popup in the overview.
- Click the three dots on the right side.
- Select Export sign-ups.
- Manually import the file into your email marketing tool.
