Bonus Points - Setup and Configuration

The bonus points module lets you reward customers with points for every purchase. Customers can use earned points as a discount on future orders. This article explains how to activate and configure bonus points.

How to activate bonus points

  1. Go to Orders/Customers → Customer Club
  2. Navigate to Bonus Points in the left menu
  3. Enable the toggle for Activate bonus points module
  4. Adjust the settings below (see descriptions)
  5. Click Save changes

Bonus points settings

Should bonus points only be given to Customer Club members?

Enable this toggle if only Customer Club members should be able to earn bonus points. When disabled, all customers can earn points.

Deduct bonus points on order update

Enable this setting to automatically recalculate bonus points when an order is edited. This ensures the point balance is always accurate, even if the order amount changes afterwards.

Ratio for point calculation

This number determines how many bonus points the customer earns per currency unit. The default value is 0.1, which means the customer earns 100 points per 1,000 NOK.

Examples:

  • 0.1 = 100 points per 1,000 NOK
  • 0.05 = 50 points per 1,000 NOK
  • 1 = 1,000 points per 1,000 NOK

Can cover shipping/fees

When this toggle is enabled, customers can use the bonus points discount code to cover shipping and fees in addition to the product price.

Do not give bonus points on sale products

Enable this toggle if products that are already on sale should not give bonus points. This prevents customers from earning points on discounted items.

Ratio for discount calculation

This number determines how much discount each bonus point gives in currency. The default value is 0.5, which means 100 points give 50 NOK in discount.

Examples:

  • 0.5 = 100 points give 50 NOK discount
  • 1.0 = 100 points give 100 NOK discount
  • 0.25 = 100 points give 25 NOK discount

Usage threshold

The minimum number of bonus points the customer must have earned before they can be used as a discount. Set to 0 for no minimum threshold.

Approved payment methods for earning

Here you can restrict which payment methods give bonus points. Enter the payment methods as a comma-separated list.

Example with Klarna Checkout, Vipps and gift card:

  • Pay with Vipps ID: vipps
  • Klarna Checkout V3 ID: KlarnaCheckoutV3
  • Payment with gift card ID: giftcard

Enter as: vipps,KlarnaCheckoutV3,giftcard

Set to 0 to approve all payment methods.

How bonus points work for the customer

  1. The customer shops in the online store and pays as usual
  2. Bonus points are calculated automatically based on the order amount and the ratio
  3. The points are added to the customer's balance after the order is completed
  4. The customer can use earned points as a discount code on their next order

Good to know

  • The bonus points module must be activated before it is available to customers.
  • Changes to ratios only affect new orders. Points already earned are not changed.
  • If "Deduct bonus points on order update" is disabled, changes to order amounts will not affect previously awarded points.
  • The combination of earning and discount ratios determines the actual discount. With the default values (0.1 earning and 0.5 discount), a purchase of 1,000 NOK gives a future discount of 50 NOK.
