Overview of giftcards (debt)

Overview of gift certificates (debt)

In your control panel, you will find an overview of your active and expired debt items.

Accessing the debt overview

The liabilities overview can be found under Reports > Debt in your control panel.

  • The list is sorted by the date the debt item was updated, not when a gift certificate was sold.
  • If parts of the value on the gift certificate are used, the gift certificate will appear at the top of this list.

Using the report for accounting

This report is well suited to use for adjusting debt/changes in liabilities in the accounts.

Gift certificates as debt

When you sell a gift certificate, the gift certificate is recorded as a liability. It is important to point out that a gift certificate is not a payment method; you can think of the gift certificate as a discount code. The turnover does not come until the gift certificate is actually used, or expires.

Example of the lifecycle of a gift certificate of 1000:

  1. You sell the gift certificate: 1000,-
  2. You get a liability of: -1000,-
  3. The gift certificate is used: 1000,-

Total turnover on the gift certificate: 1000-1000+1000=1000,-
