Automatic Purchase Order (Overselling and Restocking)

This article explains overselling and restocking, detailing how to allow sales of out-of-stock items and automatically link overselling to purchase orders for better control and automatic order updates upon receipt.

Setup and Configuration

Overselling rules can be configured in several ways:

How It Works

When overselling is configured, customers can purchase items even if they are out of stock.

When an order is created in the control panel, the system checks if the item is in stock. If not, it will either link to an existing purchase or automatically create a new draft purchase order.

Line items are automatically linked to new or existing purchases and tagged according to the purchase status. This is called "reservation" - an oversold item is reserved on a purchase order. This means that the item in the purchase belongs to a specific order until receipt or the reservation is released.
