Using the Design Builder Preview

This article explains how to use the Design Builder preview feature to safely design and customize your online store's appearance without affecting the current design visible to your customers. This allows you to test new layouts and design changes in a private environment.

How to Start the Design Builder Preview

To access the Design Builder, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to Design > Your design in the control panel.

Step 2: You will now see a selection of templates that you can choose as a starting point for building a new template.

Step 3: Click on "Try design" on the design you want to use as a basis in the Design Builder preview.

Note!

If you click on "Install and activate design", your existing design will be overwritten.
Do not click on "Install and activate design" until you are completely ready to use your new design in the online store.

You can also end the preview at any time to see your regular design again.

How to End the Design Builder Preview

Step 1: To end the Design Builder preview, go to the front page of your online store and click on the Mystore logo in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Step 2: There you will see options to end the preview.

Once you have clicked on "End preview", you will see your online store again - as it is visible to your customers.

How to Open the Preview Again

After you have ended the preview, you can continue where you left off by going back to Design > Your design.

You will now see that you have the option to "Open preview of active design":

If you choose to click on "Try design" after you have already started the design builder preview, a new box will appear where you will have the option to continue editing old files. By clicking on it, you will continue where you left off.

How to Save Changes in the Preview

In the design builder, you have two saving options - "Save and publish" and "Save as preview":

"Save and publish"

"Save and publish" will save your changes and publish them as the active page in the Design Builder, but since you are only working in the preview of the Design Builder, the changes will only be published in the preview.

Important:

When you work in the preview, you can safely make changes without affecting the active store.
Even if you choose "Save and publish", the changes will not be visible to your customers until you choose to "Install and activate" the design.

"Save as preview"

"Save as preview" saves your changes as a draft of a page and will not be published as an active page. This is useful if, for example, you are preparing a new front page for campaigns such as Black Friday – you can create the design now and publish it when the campaign starts.

"Install and activate design"

When you are satisfied with the design you have created in the preview, you can install and activate your new design.
You do this by going to Design > Your design > and clicking on the button "Install and activate design":

Note!

When you click on "Install and activate design", your existing design will be overwritten.
Do not click on "Install and activate design" until you are completely ready to switch design template and use the design you have created in the preview.
