Why don't the numbers in the trend report match?

If you compare the trend report with another report in Mystore and get different numbers, it's almost always one of the reasons below. They are not errors — they are consequences of what the report is designed to answer.

Category numbers overlap

This is the most common.

A product can be in multiple categories. If you sell a wetsuit that is in both «Wetsuits» and «New Arrivals», the sale is counted in both rows. The sum of the category rows will therefore be greater than the store's actual revenue.

The report states this directly above the table, and repeats it in the detailed view for categories.

The category view is designed to answer «which parts of the store are moving», not «what is my total revenue». If you need the total, use the dashboard or the revenue report. If you need non-overlapping numbers, switch to Product — where each sale is counted once.

The numbers stop yesterday

The report reads summarized figures that are calculated every night, and the night covers up to and including yesterday. Today's sales are therefore not included.

That's also why the report opens immediately: the work is done in advance. A report that calculated two years of orders every time you opened it would take a long time each time.

If you compare it with a report that reads orders directly, it will include today's sales — and then you will see a difference that will disappear by itself tomorrow.

Profit or margin shows a dash

A dash means that the purchase price is not known for those order lines. The purchase price is stored on the order line when the sale occurs, and if it's missing, we cannot calculate profit retrospectively.

We leave the field empty instead of showing the revenue as profit. That would result in a 100% margin on something we have no basis to claim.

This often applies to older orders, from before the purchase price was registered on the products.

The period goes further back than the calculation

If you select a custom period far back in time for a store that has recently enabled the report, some months may be missing. The report states this in a message above the table.

The reason is that the history is filled in backward, with the oldest month last. We show the message because empty months would otherwise read as «nothing was sold» when the truth is «we haven't finished calculating this yet». It will fill itself in over the next few nights.

«Uncategorized» and «Deleted»

Uncategorized, collects sales of products that are not in any category. The row exists so that the category sum does not silently lose sales.

Deleted (#nummer, is a product or category that has been removed from the store after the sale occurred. The sale has happened and should be included, but there is no name to display anymore.

The filters are not the same

Before reporting a discrepancy, check the two toggles that change the numbers themselves:

  • Show excl. VAT — are both reports consistent regarding VAT?
  • Include return rows — do both deduct returns?

If they are different, that usually explains the entire difference. The basis is shown as a label at the top of the detailed view.

The comparison is not what you thought

The report can measure the period against the same period last year or against the previous period, and the choice is next to the period selector. This does not change the period's own numbers, but it changes all change figures and percentages.

Therefore, two people looking at the same row in the same period will get different percentages if they have a different choice here. Check the column titles: if you are comparing with last year, the years are shown there; if you are comparing with the previous period, the date range is shown.

For Year to date and Previous year the two options give the same result, since the previous period there is last year.

Numbers still don't match?

The detailed view is the place to start. The order list at the bottom shows all orders behind the number, and the sentence above it confirms that the orders sum up to the same revenue as the key figure cards.

If your order list does not match the numbers above it, that is something we want to know about. Contact support and include the category or product, the period, and which filters you had on.
