Category and manufacturer page

This guide helps you set up and optimize the category page in your online store. By structuring the content correctly, you improve the user experience and increase the chance of sales.

The design template shares the same page for both category and manufacturer. This means that the layout created on the category page will also be reflected on the manufacturer page, provided that the content (sections and blocks) is available on the manufacturer page.

Edit category

  1. Open the design builder
  2. Open the template for "Category page" in the page selector in the top menu

Available sections and blocks

The category page has several sections and blocks that can be used to achieve the desired look. Among other things, you can add sections for rows, carousels, columns, and images.

Note that the sections added here, such as images, will be displayed on all categories. To display text/images for each specific category, this must be entered in the category's description.

Category description

In the "Category description" section, you add both the category title and category description.
When these blocks are added to the section, you will see the name and description (if the category has a description) for each category.

In the category description settings, you can choose whether to display the top description or the bottom description.

Read how to add a description to categories.

Category Title

Category Title is displayed for all categories and manufacturers. This block allows you to adjust settings such as size, font weight, text alignment, and color.

💡 Category Title has the setting "Show title for manufacturer". This is active by default but should be turned off if using the "Manufacturer's logo" block.

Through the "Manufacturer's logo" block, you can display the manufacturer's logo in addition to the manufacturer's name (if desired). If this block is added, it is recommended to deactivate the category title at the manufacturer level to avoid duplicate names.

  • Display type: Choose between "logo" and "Logo and name".
  • Logo settings:
    • Alignment (left, center, right)
    • Image height: logo's right
    • Prefix for logo: If display type is "Logo and name", you can add a prefix before the manufacturer's name with this. E.g. "Products from manufacturer nameFont size: the size of the manufacturer name

💡 If using the "Manufacturer's logo" block and the manufacturer does not have a logo, the manufacturer's name will be displayed.

Product Section

This section contains the blocks that make it possible to display products and subcategories.

Products in grid

This block is required for products to be displayed on category pages.
The block allows you to change which product box is displayed, as well as the general layout of columns, margins, and padding.

  • Category list settings: This setting is only active if an alternative display type is used. See below.
  • Variant buttons: Enables alternative display of variants at the category level.

Subcategories

With subcategories, you can display an overview of available subcategories at the product level. This makes it easy for customers to click through to find the product they are looking for.

To customize the design, it is recommended to display a category in the preview that actually has subcategories.

💡Make sure that "Show subcategories on the main category page" is active. The setting can be found in the control panel: Configuration > Category

Display Types

The category template currently supports two views: standard with product boxes and list view. List view lists all products without price, name, etc., but has the option for search and filter.

To use list view, you must:

  1. Have the extension "Category Templates" active
  2. Select template on category
    1. Navigate to category in the control panel
    2. Edit category (click on pencil)
    3. In the "Select category view" tab, select List

When using list view, only the color of the "highlight" can be changed. The rest of the layout is fixed.
