Discounts

This article explains the different types of discounts supported: discount codes, quantity discounts, and "Buy X, get Y".

How to create a discount code

A discount code can be created in your control panel and then sent to your customers or advertised in the online store.

To create a discount code, follow the guide in your Acendy control panel.

In Tools > Discounts

Click + New discount, and then Discount code in the menu that appears.

After clicking here, you will see the following menu:

Fill in the following information:

  • Discount code
This is the code that the customer must enter to receive the discount. You decide what this code should be, but remember that customers must enter the code exactly as it is for it to work. Each discount code must be unique. Avoid using æ, ø, and å.
  • Description
This is for internal use to keep track of discount codes.
  • Discount
How much discount you want to give, remember to choose whether the discount is in currency or percentage.

In the field The discount applies to, select which products the discount should apply to. The discount can be limited to the following.

  • Selected category or Selected manufacturer
Check the categories/manufacturers you want the discount to apply to. All products from the selected category(s)/manufacturer(s) will be discounted. If you have a main category and several subcategories with products, you must check the subcategories that the discount code should apply to.
  • Selected product
You can now search for products one by one. Start typing the name of a product you want the discount to apply to. When it appears under the search field, just click on the name to add it. If you want to remove a product that has been added, just remove the checkmark in the box next to the product name.

You can enter a date in Valid from/to if the discount should only apply for a specific period. If not needed, you can leave these blank.

Click Save

Note!

It is not possible to create discount codes that contain Æ, Ø and Å, hyphen and space. The reason for this is that programming languages do not take these characters into account.

Advanced settings

To show advanced settings, click on "Show advanced settings"

Here you can check for:

  • Allow purchases that are lower than the discount code's value
  • Can be combined with other discounts
  • Give discount on products that are on sale
  • The discount can cover shipping/fees
(Percent % does not work on shipping, here you must enter amount)
  • Give discount only on the most expensive product in the shopping cart

You can also set up rules for:

  • The discount is valid for orders from and including
The discount code should apply from a certain order amount
  • Number of times the code can be used
How many times a discount code can be used in the online store before it is deactivated.
  • Connect to customer account
Here, the discount code can be linked to a specific customer so that only he/she can use it.
This requires the customer to be logged in before going to the checkout.

Unfortunately, there is no support for creating discount codes that can be sent out to all customers, which each individual customer can only use once.

Quantity discount

Quantity discount is a good way to reward customers who buy a lot. The discount automatically applies to all new orders, or all new orders in a specific period.

  1. Go to Tools -> Discounts
  2. Click + New discount, and then on Quantity discount in the menu that appears
  3. Fill in internal name, the number of products the discount should apply to, and how much the discount is. If you want different discounts for different quantities, you can add more lines by clicking "New line"

Discount matrix here you can enter which discount should apply to the number of products purchased. The quantity discount will apply to the number of purchases of one and the same product. Example to the picture above:
If a customer buys 4 products, these must be 4 products of the same type.

Note!

It is not possible to combine several products in the quantity discount. I.e., you cannot achieve a quantity discount by combining 2 of product X against 2 of product Y.

With the field «The discount applies to» you choose which products the discount should apply to. It can be set to:

  • «Selected category» or «Selected manufacturer»
Check the categories/manufacturers you want the discount to apply to. All products from the selected category/manufacturer will be discounted
  • «Selected product»
You can now search up a product one by one. Start typing the name of a product you want the discount to apply to. When it appears under the search field, just click on the name to add it. If you want to remove a product that has been added, just remove the checkmark in the box next to the product name
  1. You can enter a date in «Valid from/to» if the discount should only apply for a specific period. If not needed, you can leave these blank
  2. Click "Save"

Reports on discount codes

If you go to "Details" on a discount code, it is possible to get an overview of who has used the discount code, as well as date/order number/etc.

Buy X, get Y percent discount

This discount form is an effective strategy to increase the average order, as it encourages customers to add more products to the shopping cart to achieve a certain discount. With the setting "Minimum number of products" you can set a requirement for how many products must be added to the shopping cart for the discount to be activated. For example, you can offer 15% discount when buying at least three products. It is also easy to implement additional restrictions, such as requiring membership in the customer club, or excluding certain suppliers and categories.

Buy X, get Y on the purchase (3 for 2)

This discount type is commonly used for promotions of the type "3 for 2", but also supports giving a percentage discount if you buy a certain number from a category or manufacturer.

To create a new discount of this type, click "New discount", and then select "Buy X, get Y" from the list that appears.

In the example that follows, we set up a "3 for 2" discount on all products from the brand Osprey.

This will give a 100% discount on the cheapest product in the shopping cart as soon as you have purchased at least three. This scales further and gives 100% discount on the two cheapest if you buy six, etc.

Limit which products/categories/manufacturers a discount is valid for

All discounts can be set to be valid for selected products, categories or manufacturers. It is also possible to create a discount that is valid for all products except selected products, categories or manufacturers.

In the example below, the discount is set up to apply to all products from Osprey, except for those we search for and choose to make the discount invalid for.
