Discount tool

This article explains how to create and manage discounts in your online store. You can create discount codes, quantity discounts, and campaigns such as Buy X, Get Y.

Before you start

If you cannot find discounts in the control panel, you must first install the Discount Center extension.

  1. Go to Extensions → Your extensions
  2. Search for Discount Center with quantity discounts etc.
  3. Click + Install extension

Once installed, you can find discounts here:
Tools → Discounts


Create a discount code

A discount code can be shared with customers or used in marketing campaigns.

How to create a discount code:

  1. Go to Tools → Discounts
  2. Click + New discount
  3. Select Discount code
  4. Fill in the required information
  5. Click Save

Required fields:

Discount code
The code the customer must enter during checkout.
Note: Discount codes cannot contain Æ, Ø, Å, hyphens, or spaces.

Description
Internal description used for administration.

Discount
Choose either a fixed amount or percentage.

Discount applies to

Choose which products the discount applies to:

  • Selected category
  • Selected manufacturer
  • Selected product

If you choose a category, remember to include subcategories if the discount should apply to them.

Valid from / to (optional)
Specify a time period when the discount should be active.


Advanced settings

Click Show advanced settings for more options.

Here you can:

  • allow purchases below the discount value
  • combine the discount with other discounts
  • apply the discount to products already on sale
  • apply discounts to shipping or fees
  • apply the discount only to the most expensive product in the cart

You can also define rules such as:

Minimum order value
The discount only applies to orders above a certain amount.

Usage limit
Limit the number of times the discount code can be used.

Customer account restriction
The discount can be limited to logged-in customers.


Quantity discounts

Quantity discounts reward customers for purchasing multiple units of the same product.

How to create a quantity discount:

  1. Go to Tools → Discounts
  2. Click + New discount
  3. Select Quantity discount
  4. Fill in:
    • internal name
    • number of products
    • discount amount
  5. Click New row to add more levels
  6. Click Save

Important:

  • Quantity discounts apply per product.
  • It is not possible to combine different products to qualify for a quantity discount.

Example (not possible):

  • 2 units of product X
  • 2 units of product Y

Quantity discounts for variants

You can also allow quantity discounts to apply across product variants.

Example:

  • T-shirt – Small
  • T-shirt – Large

Enable quantity discounts for variants:

  1. Go to Extensions → Your extensions → Discount Center with quantity discounts etc.
  2. Click Settings
  3. Enable Quantity discounts for variants
  4. Click Update


Buy X, Get Y discount

Buy X, Get Y percentage discount

This type of discount is commonly used for campaigns such as:
15% discount when purchasing at least 3 products

How to create a Buy X, Get Y discount:

  1. Go to Tools → Discounts
  2. Click + New discount
  3. Select Buy X, Get Y

Define:

  • minimum number of products
  • discount amount or percentage

Buy X, Get Y free (3 for 2)

This is commonly used for campaigns like 3 for 2.

Example:

  • A customer buys 3 products → receives 100% discount on the cheapest product.
  • The discount scales automatically.

Example:

  • buy 6 → pay for 4
  • buy 9 → pay for 6


Missing the Buy X, Get Y option?

If you cannot find the Buy X, Get Y option, the Discount Center extension may need to be updated.

  1. Go to Extensions → Your extensions
  2. Find Discount Center with quantity discounts etc.
  3. Click Update available

Enable Buy X, Get Y:

  1. Go to Extensions → Your extensions → Discount Center with quantity discounts etc.
  2. Click Settings
  3. Enable Buy X, Get Y discounts
  4. Click Update


Restrict which products a discount applies to

All discounts can be restricted to:

  • specific products
  • categories
  • manufacturers

You can also exclude certain products, categories, or manufacturers from the discount.


View discount code usage

  1. Go to Tools → Discounts
  2. Click the three dots under Actions
  3. Click Details

Here you can see:

  • who used the code
  • date of use
  • order number.
