Discount Center: Quantity discounts
A quantity discount rewards customers for buying more. You set up tiers — "buy 5 or more, save 10%", "buy 10 or more, save 15%" — and the store applies the right discount automatically based on how many products are in the cart. There's no code to enter.
How tiers work
A quantity discount is built from one or more tiers. Each tier covers a quantity range and the discount that applies in that range.
From quantity | To quantity | Discount |
|---|---|---|
3 | 5 | 10% |
6 | 9 | 15% |
10 | (empty) | 20% |
In this example, buying 4 of a product gets 10% off, buying 7 gets 15%, and buying 10 or more gets 20%.
Leave the To quantity empty on your last tier to make it open-ended — it covers that quantity and everything above it.
Editing tiers
- On the discount's detail page, find the Quantity tiers card and click Edit tiers.
- Set the From quantity, To quantity, and Discount for each tier.
- Click Add tier for another row.
- Save.
A few rules the editor enforces:
- Every tier needs a From quantity and a discount value.
- Tiers can't overlap. Each quantity range must be distinct.
- The discount value can be a percentage or a fixed amount per the tier.
Settings
The Settings card on a quantity discount controls how the discount is calculated:
Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
Apply to | Whether the discount applies to all items in the cart, only the most expensive item, or only the cheapest item. |
Discount on sale products | Whether items already on sale are eligible for the quantity discount too. |
Use original price (not sale price) | Calculate the discount from the recommended pre-sale price instead of the current sale price. |
There's also an indication of whether quantity is counted per variant or per product total — this depends on a store setting. Per product total means all variants of a product count toward the same tier; per variant means each size or colour is counted on its own.

What it applies to
Like every discount, a quantity discount can target all products, specific products, categories, or manufacturers. Most quantity discounts target specific products or a category. See Choosing which products a discount applies to.
When you target specific products, the products list on the detail page shows a price column for each tier — so you can see exactly what a product costs at "From 3", "From 6", and so on.
Tips
- Use an open-ended last tier (empty "To") so there's no upper limit a big order could fall past.
- If you don't want a quantity discount stacking on top of sale prices, leave "Discount on sale products" off.
- For "3 for 2" style offers where the cheapest item is free, use Buy X for Y instead — it's built for that. See Buy X for Y.
