## Types of shipping methods

There are two main types of shipping methods in the online store:

- **Manual shipping methods**
- **Automatic shipping calculation**

### Manual shipping methods

Manual shipping methods use prices that you define yourself in the control panel.

Common examples include:

- **Flat rate shipping**

A fixed shipping price regardless of weight or destination.

This is suitable for stores where:

- - - products are similar in size
        - shipping costs are roughly the same

- **Shipping price based on postal code and weight**

Allows you to define shipping zones based on:

- - - postal code
        - weight

This is often used for:

- - - larger items
        - different shipping costs depending on distance

- **Pick up in store**

Allows customers to collect their order from a physical store.

You can also restrict this method to specific postal codes.

### Automatic shipping calculation

Automatic shipping calculation uses the carrier’s own pricing tables.

The shipping cost is calculated based on:

- weight
- destination
- shipping product

This gives the customer a more accurate shipping price in checkout.
