# Filter placement

## Filter Placement

The theme settings for filters allow you to choose whether the filter should be placed horizontally above the products on a category page, or on the left side as a sidebar menu.

This setting requires that the store is set up with and uses [product filters.](https://support.acendy.com/no/article/produktfilter)

The image below shows the difference between horizontal filters and sidebar filters.

### Settings:

-   **Filter layout on categories:** Choose whether the filter should be placed horizontally at the top or in the sidebar.
-   **Filter style:** Choose between an open filter (always open, cannot be closed) or an accordion that can be opened and closed by customers.   
    *This setting requires the filter layout to be set to "Sidebar on the left side."*
-   **Sorting option:** Choose whether the product sorting option should be displayed above or below the other filters.   
    *This setting requires the filter layout to be set to "Sidebar on the left side."*
