# Overview of giftcards (debt)

## Overview of gift certificates (debt)

In your control panel, you will find an overview of your active and expired debt items.

## Accessing the debt overview

The liabilities overview can be found under *Reports > Debt* in your control panel.

- The list is sorted by the date the debt item was updated, not when a gift certificate was sold.
- If parts of the value on the gift certificate are used, the gift certificate will appear at the top of this list.

## Using the report for accounting

This report is well suited to use for adjusting debt/changes in liabilities in the accounts.

## Gift certificates as debt

When you sell a gift certificate, the gift certificate is recorded as a liability. It is important to point out that a gift certificate is not a payment method; you can think of the gift certificate as a discount code. The turnover does not come until the gift certificate is actually used, or expires.

### Example of the lifecycle of a gift certificate of 1000:

1. You sell the gift certificate: 1000,-
2. You get a liability of: -1000,-
3. The gift certificate is used: 1000,-

Total turnover on the gift certificate: 1000-1000+1000=1000,-
