What is personalized search and why should it be used?
Conversion
How does personalized search help conversion?
We live in a time where customers have little time, but at the same time are exposed to a lot of information from many different companies.
Let's say you're bringing in a customer through an ad on Facebook or Google, which is never easy. Once you have received the customer in the store, you usually only have a few seconds to catch the customer's interest.
A big reason why customers leave your online store is searches that don't return results. A good search function is especially important on mobile, where customers have less overview and often have a shorter attention window.
Search
The personalized search allows customers to receive suggestions for relevant products, categories or brands based on what they type in the search field even before they click search. This makes it easier for customers to find results that are relevant to them.
Personalized search is based on AI technology, which means that it gets better and smarter the longer you have it in the store. A good search will help you increase conversion and reduce the number of customers leaving your online store.
Filtration
In our search results, customers get the opportunity to filter by categories, manufacturer and price. In addition, one can sort on different criteria.
Suggestions for products with product image
As the customer types what they are looking for, the search will continuously show product suggestions with pictures.
Tool
Search without results
These are searches customers have done without finding products. This could be typographical errors, for example. To avoid searches without results, you can use this list to create synonyms for keywords. An example could be that someone searches for child wake when the keyword is supposed to be a stroller, then you enter childwake as a synonym for stroller. Read more about it under "Synonyms".
Synonyms
Synonyms help you minimize the number of searches without results. In short, it is used to display a different search result than the one you are searching for. An example would be typical typos on products.
In the example below, "Cycling shoes" is entered as a synonym for the search term "Cralltest".
The search in the store now shows all products that contain cycling shoes.
We recommend creating synonyms based on the overview you find in Search without results.
Keyword
Keywords allow you to provide extra information in a search.
You can create your own keywords to show expanded content for special keywords. For example, if someone searches for "Apple", you can show the customer extra information about Apple and their products. Alternatively, you can create a keyword for manufacturers that you do not have.
Custom result
This feature can be used to customize what is shown for different keywords, both to include and exclude individual products for keywords, and even to create landing pages for special keywords.
Some common uses:
- Prioritize specific products for a keyword
- Exclude products from a search query
- Create a landing page based on a keyword
Keywords
In the "Keywords" field, enter the word for which you want to customize results.
Merge result
This choice determines whether or not the products you choose to display for a keyword are merged with the "normal" keyword performance.
If you select "Merge result", the usual result plus the products you choose to display will be displayed. The products you choose to display will appear at the top, so this is a way to prioritize individual products per keyword.
If you select "Do not merge results", only the products you choose to display will be displayed.
Products
Here you search for which products to include or exclude for the keyword. Once you've looked up a product and added it, you'll have the option of including or excluding it.
