Are you a new/small online store? Should you use a corporate agreement on shipping? Here we look at the pros and cons.
Shipping may seem like a jungle? But if you are going to run an online store, it is something you must necessarily deal with. There are many players and countless shipping products on the market - what to choose?
Are you going to have a corporate agreement, or are you going to send parcels with Posten? Should you choose PostNord? Bring? Hero home? Schenker? DHL? Of course, this depends a little on what you're sending. To whom. And in what volume.
It may seem illogical to many, but it is many times cheaper to send a package as a private individual than to send it as a business with a corporate agreement. This is because prices towards consumers are subsidized. As a company, you can of course send a parcel in the same way as a private individual if you wish.
Choice of shipping type
Should you have a business agreement on shipping, or can you just send packages as Norgespar?
It is not a given that it is cheapest or best for you to have a corporate agreement. Many newly started or small online stores choose to start by sending parcels e.g. with Posten: Postal and shipping services in Norway and abroad to keep costs down.
The advantage is that the isolated price of sending a single package is actually low. On Posten.no you can, for example, send a package with tracking from 70 kr. incl. VAT.
The insurance on this type of package is also better if it is intended for private customers.
Nor do you have to deal with volume weight in the same way as with a corporate agreement.
The disadvantages are that you have to copy and paste the name, address, mail and mobile number of each customer - and pay each shipment by card. This is time-consuming and it is also possible to make errors that may have consequences for the delivery.
As the volume hopefully increases in your online store, you will be dependent on being able to streamline and automate your shipping. In addition, there will quickly be many vouchers if you continue to post one voucher per shipment in your accounts.
Even if you start by using manual shipping methods, as mentioned above, we recommend that you get your online store ready for the next step. Enter into a shipping agreement with a carrier and set up your online store for easy order management and shipping label printing, so you're ready for the day the volume of packages starts to take over. Also, remember that time is money.
