Do you know how to change the photo that appears when you share a link from the online store on Facebook? We'll show you step by step how to do it.
When you share a link from the online store on Facebook, the largest banner image is usually displayed from the front page. If the image is not large enough, then a small square image will appear. Some also experience that no image is shown, only headline and introduction. Then the recipe below is the solution to the problem.
Example of link showing a small image on Facebook.
The size of the image
In order for the image to look its best on all devices when sharing a link, the image must be in 1200×628 pixels. This is Facebook's recommended size for images when sharing a link and/or link ads. You can, of course, make a collage with multiple images and text, but make sure you're using the right size, 1200×628 pixels.
To add and replace an image in your online store:
- First, check if "Facebook like buttons" are installed under "Setup" > "Social media"
- Then go to "Design" > "Your design" > "Design settings":
- Select "Advanced" and "General Settings":
- Click "Choose File" and upload an image that is in size 1200×628 pixels. Click "Save Settings."
Image not updated right away?
If a new image doesn't appear when you try to share a link, we recommend using Facebook's free Open Graph Debugger tool.
To use the Open Graph Debugger:
- Click here to access the Open Graph Debugger.
- In the field that appears, paste the URL of the page and click on "Debug".
- Further down the page, an image will appear showing the appearance of the image when you share the link. Click "Scrape again". Sometimes you need to press 2-3 times on this button before you see the change you made.
- When new image appears, try pasting the URL of the page you're going to share on your Facebook page. Now a new image should appear.
