Forwarding

Forwarding can be used to send customers who go to an old address in the store that is no longer in use, to a new specified address. 

If customers have bookmarked or linked to an old page, such as the category "tights" that was previously on the www.butikk.no/categories/tights, that has been changed/moved/merged with other categories, such as www.butikk.no/categories/treningsklaer, a forwarding can be created at the old address of the new one.
This will then mean that those who try to go to the old address do not get a 404 error, the page does not exist, but is forwarded to the new page.

To create a forward, go to Control Panel > Configuration > Forwarding

The three forwarding fields are:

• Type of forwarding:
  • Here you choose whether the forwarding should be global, from / to category only, or only from/to product. The only real difference between these is that categories/ or products/ are added from and to the address.
    • Global: General forwarding in the store, can specify any old address to be sent to a new one.
    • Category:From one category id to another category id
    • Product: From one product identifier to another product identifier
    • Note: Category ID and Product ID do not mean the category/product name, but the ID. What you'll see when you edit the category/product
• Old address:
  • Here you fill in the address to be forwarded from.
• New address
  • Here you fill in the address to which it is to be forwarded.

It is also possible to change or delete existing forwarding.

Please note if you select "DELETE" and it will be immediately deleted!
NOTE! Editing existing redirects should only be done if you have a good reason to do so and know what you are doing.

When editing existing forwarding, the old address will be locked and you will have the option to enter a new forwarding as shown in the example below.
You can also choose to cancel editing.

Here's a global forwarding that strikes when customers try to access www.omnistore.no/den-gamle-adressen - They will be forwarded to the new address on the www.omnistore.no/den-nye-adressen:

NOTE: This tool can only be used to set up forwarding within the main domain of your store.
