Here we go through how to easily calculate the shipping price on larger packages. We also describe volume weight and how this affects the shipping price.
Explanation of volume weight
What exactly is volume weight and why is it important?
Volume weight, or freight calculation weight, is the transport industry's way of converting parcel volumes to weights. Normally this is done according to the formula: (((Width x Length x Height)/1000)/3.5.
Example
The real weight of the package: 5 kg.
Package dimensions: 30cm x 40cm x 25cm.
Calculation: 30x40x25=30,000. 30,000/1000 = 30
30/3.5 = 9 kg by volume.
Rounded up to 9kg: This means that the prices will show a pack for 9kg at checkout on your online store.
Volume weight with Mystore Freight
As a customer of Mystore Freight, one gets an advantage in that the volume weight is calculated by dividing the calculation by 5, normally it is divided by 3.5.
Same example with Mystore Shipping
The real weight of the package: 5 kg.
Package dimensions: 30cm x 40cm x 25cm.
Calculation: 30x40x25=30,000. 30,000/1000 = 30
30/5 = 6 kg by volume.
All weight, both real weight and volume weight, is rounded up to the nearest whole kilogram.
